A powerful 7.6 earthquake shook the residents of Costa Rica and a wide stretch of Central America. According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake occurred beneath the Nicoya Peninsula.

Officials report only one death, resulted from a heart attack from all the collapsing houses and highways. As of now, there are no reported deaths caused directly by the earthquake.
While officials have cancelled an initial tsunami warning, five thousand people have been evacuated from the Samara District.
